ਸੋਧੋ- (lit.) That one
ਵਰਤੋਂ
ਸੋਧੋ- ਉਹ is usually used to point to things which are not currently 'easily accessible' i.e. Object reffered to can be very far from COA(center of attraction) or no longer owned by the person. ਉਸ is generally used for familiar and/or easily accessible objects.
- ਉਸda means 'y belonging to that person' where y denotes a masculine generalized word. (e.g. Dog, table or husband)
ਉਸdi means 'x belonging to that person' where x denotes a feminine generalized word. (e.g. Bitch, chair or wife) ਉਹda/ ਉਹdi are used vernacularly and seldom in formal punjabi. Please note that the gender of object pointed to makes up for da and di and not person to whom it belongs. Examples will make it more clear: (Searched on google) ਉਸ ਇਕੱਠ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਸਾਡੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਦਾ <Usage :'That gathering' "XXX is leading that gathering"> ਪਰ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤਾਂ <Usage:'That time'> ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਏਕਟਕ ਦੇਖ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ <Usage: 'That person' Here center of attraction is the boy at whom girl was looking at, so it is ਉਸ. Even though girl is speaker she is not the COA, hence ਉਹ is used. Note that ਉਹ ਉਹਨੂੰ would be wrong here but vernacularly correct. However ਉਸ ਉਸਨੂੰ would be vernacularly wrong too>
- ਉਸਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਬੱਗਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ <Usage: 'Mouth belonging to that person' Note that here person can be male/female but mouth is masculine>
ਉਸਦੀ ਧੀ <Usage: 'Daughter belonging to that person' or 'His/Her Daughter' note that again person's gender is not specified but daughter's gender is>
